JBS Receives Maryland Green Registry Leadership Award

June 11, 2012 (North Bethesda, MD). In February 2012, JBS was named to the Maryland Green Registry. On June 5, JBS was one of five organizations to receive the Maryland Green Registry Leadership Award from Lt. Governor Anthony Brown and Maryland Department of the Environment Secretary Robert Summers. The awards recognize a strong commitment to sustainable practices, measurable results, and continual improvement.

Secretary Summers noted that Leadership Award winners are on the front line in bringing good business and sustainable practices together. Lt. Governor Brown said, “The measurable results of all the Green Registry members are commendable and are the result of hard work, commitment, and leadership.”

“At JBS, the idea for a sustainable workplace came from our staff,” explains Co-CEO Jerri Shaw. “A core group volunteered to design and lead what has become known as our Green Team, and our efforts took off from there. The staff translated our vision of being an environmentally responsible firm into action.”

“JBS is honored to receive this award,” adds Co-CEO Gail Bassin. “Our Green Team works very hard to create opportunities for JBS to be a leader in the corporate environmental arena, and it is rewarding to see their efforts—and the efforts of all our employees—recognized in this way.”

The Maryland Green Registry is a voluntary program launched by Governor Martin O’Malley as part of the State’s Smart, Green, and Growing initiative that promotes and recognizes sustainable greening efforts by organizations throughout Maryland. To join the Registry, businesses are required to complete an application detailing their involvement in at least five environmental best practices and provide at least one measurable result.
