Stellar Division

In 2008, JBS acquired the Stellar Corporation of Vienna, VA. Stellar, founded in 1994, is a health information technology firm. Now a division of JBS, Stellar provides services to Federal clients as well as biotech and pharmaceutical firms. Stellar’s work with the National Institutes of Health (NIH), the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), and commercial clients includes development and harmonization of health data standards and support for initiatives to streamline reporting, analyzing, and communicating of adverse events related to clinical research and post-market safety surveillance.  These initiatives include the Safety Reporting Portal, currently under development for the FDA and NIH.  Stellar also has expertise with the evolving standards associated with personal health record (PHR) systems and PHR data exchange requirements, an area in which JBS has growing interest, expertise, and experience.

The acquisition will further expand JBS’s presence in the health IT consulting sector, offering broad experience with personal health records and extending our capabilities into the biotech and biopharmaceutical fields. When the acquisition was announced, Jerri Shaw, Co-CEO of JBS noted: “This work will help broaden our IT talent, systems, and applications platforms—allowing us to offer even more state-of-the-art support to States and the Federal Government.”

The Stellar division offers clients extensive regulatory knowledge that includes:

  • 21 CFR Part 11—eSignatures & electronic records
  • Health Level 7 Version 3 Messaging Formats
  • MedDRA—Medical Dictionary for Regulatory Activities
  • HIPAA—Healthcare Insurance Portability & Accountability Act
  • Section 508B Compliance—Web and software usability for Federal use
