Corporate Awards

Government Contractor of the Year ($25–$75 million category)

In 2006, JBS received Contractor of the Year in the 4th Annual Greater Washington GovCon Awards. The award was presented for distinguished financial and operational accomplishments and for outstanding contributions during the past year to employees, the government contracting industry, and the U.S. Government. The awards are presented by the Northern Virginia Government Contractors Council, Washington Technology, and Professional Services Council, the principal national trade association of the government professional and technical services industry.

Executive of the Year (less than $75 million category)

Gail Bassin, JBS Co-CEO, was named Executive of the Year at the 6th Annual Greater Washington Government Contractor (GovCon) Awards ceremony on October 7, 2008. The award recognizes Gail's outstanding contributions to JBS, the community, and the government contracting industry during 2008. The GovCon awards are presented by the Northern Virginia Government Contractors Council, Professional Services Council, and Washington Technology. The awards celebrate "the industry and people vital to government and the regional economy."

The Gazette of Politics and Business's (P&B's) Exceptional 53 Awards

The P&B Exceptional 53 is a new awards program that identifies and acknowledges Maryland's most well-rounded companies and organizations. JBS is proud to be ranked as 1 of P&B's Exceptional 53, ahead of some of our biggest competitors in the government consulting industry. Companies were judged in the categories of organizational growth, innovation, and community service. Nearly 100 applications were submitted, sent from companies representing the public, private, profit, and nonprofit sectors from nine counties and more than a dozen industries.

Administration for Children and Families (ACF), Assistant Secretary's 2007 Honor Awards

Gail Bassin received an award "in recognition of exemplary achievement and expertise in providing program support to the Family and Youth Services Bureau." JBS's IT staff also received an award for automating the Child and Family Services Review. ACF noted that the automated review process "has greatly improved the accuracy, consistency, and usefulness of the review information in all States." The awards are presented to recognize the special contributions that have been made by contractors that have partnered with ACF to support the agency in successful accomplishment of the agency's strategic goals, key priorities, and overall mission; improvements in internal administrative procedures; and more effective customer service.

4th Annual Women Who Mean Business Award 2007

Both Gail Bassin and Jerri Shaw received this award. Each year, the Washington Business Journal recognizes the region’s most influential women in the Women Who Mean Business program. Nominees represent women from every industry and profession—women who have made a difference in their communities, blazed a trail for others, and are leaving their mark on Washington business.

Top 100 Minority Business Enterprise Awards: Honoring Minority and Women
Entrepreneurs 2007

Gail Bassin and Jerri Shaw received this award on behalf of JBS. Each year the award is presented to 100 entrepreneurs in Maryland for outstanding achievements in business development, client satisfaction, professional affiliations, and community involvement. The awards are presented by the University of Maryland University College, the Maryland Chamber of Commerce, and the State of Maryland's Governors Office of Minority Affairs.

Top Women-Owned Businesses

In 2005 (the last year the list was published), JBS was ranked 9th on the Washington Business Journal's annual list of women-owned businesses in terms of annual revenue (up from 11 in 2004 and 15 in 2003).
