2011 Communitas Award for Leadership in Ethical and Environmental Responsibility
Jerri Shaw, JBS Co-CEO and President, received the 2011 Communitas Award for her leadership in corporate volunteerism, environmental responsibility, employee health and wellness initiatives, and service on professional boards. Sponsored by the Association of Marketing and Communication Professionals, the award honors excellence in community service and social responsibility and recognizes the spirit of communitas—people helping people.
Washington Business Journal's (WBJ's) CFO of the Year Award
In 2009, Gail Bassin, JBS Co-CEO and Treasurer, was awarded WBJ's CFO of the Year Award for government contracting firms with revenues under $200 million. She was one of three women finalists across six categories, and the only female award winner. Awards were given to chief financial officers and their teams who deliver the most outstanding performance for their companies between January 2008 and June 2009. Judging criteria included demonstrated financial growth during the year, success in overcoming significant business challenges or barriers, and examples of team leadership and superior management. Other judging factors included the CFO's contributions to the community, demonstrated commitment to the company's financial best practices and accounting standards, and success as a strategic visionary for the enterprise.
Executive of the Year
In 2008, Gail Bassin, JBS Co-CEO, was named Executive of the Year (less than $75 million category) in the 6th Annual Greater Washington Government Contractor (GovCon) Awards competition. The award recognized Gail's outstanding contributions to JBS, the community, and the government contracting industry during 2008. The GovCon awards are presented by the Northern Virginia Government Contractors Council, Professional Services Council, and Washington Technology. The awards celebrate "the industry and people vital to government and the regional economy."
The Gazette of Politics and Business's (P&B's) Exceptional 53 Awards
The P&B's Exceptional 53 was started in 2008 to identify and acknowledge Maryland's most well-rounded companies and organizations. Companies were judged in the categories of organizational growth, innovation, and community service.
Administration for Children and Families (ACF), Assistant Secretary's 2007 Honor Awards
Gail Bassin received an award "in recognition of exemplary achievement and expertise in providing program support to the Family and Youth Services Bureau." JBS's IT staff also received an award for automating the Child and Family Services Review. ACF noted that the automated review process "has greatly improved the accuracy, consistency, and usefulness of the review information in all States." The awards are presented to recognize the special contributions that have been made by contractors that have partnered with ACF to support the agency in successful accomplishment of the agency's strategic goals, key priorities, and overall mission; improvements in internal administrative procedures; and more effective customer service.
4th Annual Women Who Mean Business Award
Both Gail Bassin and Jerri Shaw received this award in 2007. Each year, the Washington Business Journal recognizes the region's most influential women in the Women Who Mean Business program. Nominees represent women from every industry and profession—women who have made a difference in their communities, blazed a trail for others, and are leaving their mark on Washington business.
Top 100 Minority Business Enterprise Awards: Honoring Minority and Women Entrepreneurs
In 2007, Gail Bassin and Jerri Shaw received this award on behalf of JBS. Each year the award is presented to 100 entrepreneurs in Maryland for outstanding achievements in business development, client satisfaction, professional affiliations, and community involvement. The awards are presented by the University of Maryland University College, the Maryland Chamber of Commerce, and the State of Maryland's Governors Office of Minority Affairs.
Government Contractor of the Year ($25–$75 million category)
In 2006, JBS received Contractor of the Year in the 4th Annual Greater Washington Government Contractor Awards. The award was presented for distinguished financial and operational accomplishments and for outstanding contributions to employees, the government contracting industry, and the U.S. Government. The awards are presented by the Northern Virginia Government Contractors Council, Washington Technology, and Professional Services Council, the principal national trade association of the government professional and technical services industry.
