JBS Employee Marcie McClellan Presents at State of the Public's Health Conference

Marcie McClellan, M.A., lead content manager at JBS for the One Test. Two Lives.™ (OTTL) campaign​, gave a presentation at the State of the Public's Health Conference in the University of Georgia October 17.

The presentation focused on how OTTL resources can help doctors become more comfortable talking with their patients about HIV testing during pregnancy.

"It's important to acknowledge that physicians are not always comfortable having [difficult] conversations with their patients, whether it's about opioid use or HIV testing," McClellan said. Health communicators can work with physicians to provide additional guidance and recommendations for facilitating conversations about subjects that might have stigma attached or might be uncomfortable.

The OTTL project, which JBS supported until 2016, is a campaign from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention designed to help prevent transmission of HIV from mother to child by encouraging HIV testing and treatment. The JBS campaign team conducted a literature review, developed a due date calculator, redesigned the OTTL website and updated online content for the campaign, and created a series of new fact sheets to remind doctors and patients of the importance of testing for HIV during every pregnancy.
