Alcohol and drug misuse and abuse may take an even greater
social and psychological toll on older adults than on younger
persons. In addition to psychosocial and life management issues

have on the body, leading to the special vulnerability of
older adults to the medical sequelae of alcohol and drug misuse
and abuse.
